Our Mission
Al Sura, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity foundation whose mission is to improve communication, education, and promotional awareness in the fight against HIV/AIDS within the African-American community. Al Sura endeavors to reach out within our community through social marketing and fundraising opportunities while providing leadership training to individuals and organizations providing HIV/AIDS support targeted to people of color.
Our Challenge
Seventy-six percent of all people living with HIV/AIDS cases in Washington, DC are black. Ninety-two percent of newly reported HIV/AIDS cases in Washington, DC are black. Among all women in Washington, DC, black women consist of Ninety-one percent of those living with HIV/AIDS. Among all women in Washington, DC, black women of Ninety-three percent of newly reported AIDS cases. In Washington, DC, black men who have sex men (MSM) comprised of Fifty-eight percent of people living with HIV/AIDS.
Signature Fundraising Event - Annual White Attire Affair
In 1999, 151 people in Washington, DC attended a backyard barbeque. They wore white as a symbol of unity to raise awareness and funds to help fight HIV/AIDS. Today thousands have attended the annual festive fundraisers benefiting local HIV/AIDS prevention organizations.

One thousand professional men (60%) and women (40%). Ninety five percent of attendees are African American. Seventy percent llive and work in the DMV region. Thirty percent travel primarily from NYC, ATL and MIA. Estimated Income Range of attendees: 45k-85K
